Cygnet is on the eastern side of the Huon River. Cygnet was originally named 'Port de Cygne' (Port Cygnet) by Admiral Bruni D'Entrecasteaux a french explorer who led an expedition to Australia in 1792, it was the first known visit to the Huon area by any European.
